Now that the space Shuttle and rocket schedule is cleared, and mother nature has had her fun with the weather, we can now get back to business...
with the southern end of the Mosquito Lagoon open again, the Redfish and SeaTrout will be searching for a good meal.
Look early for tailing Reds around the whaleTail, and surrounding mangroves.
Ive been using blk and chareuse tail Heddon Zira Spook jr's Early, and switch to a salt and pepper/ Chareuse Tail 3'' shad assasin Later in the day, landing a nice mix of good size fish
along the way.
Now that the weather is cooling, the Redfish will be starting to school up,and stay on the flats
for longer periods of the day...
Looking forward to a great season, so grab your coffee, and a good pair of polarized lenses,
and lets go fishing....

Summertime REDS!!

The flats have been heating up early,
but if you get there for the magic hour( first light) it will
be a great experience, and the trout are an all day blast, lots of topwater action.
i am still finding large numbers of big reds hanging out tight in the shallow waters,
north of haulover canal.
seems that the black drum moved off tiger, and the mullet moved in, and hungry reds
not far behind..
FYI, the wildlife refuge police have been out, so lets follow the rules and be safe out there.
So, lets grab our coffee, and our polarized lenses and lets go flats fishing out on mosquito lagoon.
Fairwind calm seas

2 Spots report for April, 2009

4/18/09

If it's Tailing Reds you want, then "let's go! grab your coffee and polarized lenses and let's hit it...

As the water continues to warm, the pods of redfish start to split up and scatter all along the Indian river and Mosquito Lagoon areas, as well as the Sea Trout, and the Black Drum.

The past few days have been really nice and calm, but as the day progresses so does the afternoon breeze..

I primarily have been concentrating on the northend of the lagoon. There i have been doing well with large redfish, monster seatrout and lately the past few months Black Drum have found a home on the northend of the lagoon.

My go to lure has always been the white Heddon super spook jr, nothing like topwater action with a bull red, or a nice sea trout. Black drum have been pounding a new lure i was introduced to, the CW crab, they out of Texas and they are just awesome for blk drum and reds too.

some of the other baits ive been using are, live shrimp, live mullet, and my collection of natural color saltwater assasins.

Fairwind and Calm Seas everyone, and lets go fishing

Capt. Russ
